The deltoid ligaments are the ligaments that support the
medial longitudinal arch of the foot (the foots arch). These ligaments
are less commonly damaged
than the lateral ligaments of the ankle. These ligaments are injured
when the
foot is forced into dorsiflexion and eversion (foot up and out) and are
sometimes injured along with the lateral ankle ligaments. The deltoid
ligaments often take approximately
twice as long to heal as the lateral ankle ligaments.
