Calcaneal apophysitis or severs disease is a common problem in children between seven and ten years old. It presents with pain and swelling at the insertion of the achilles tendon at the back of the heel. It is oftem related to periods of growth where the soft tissues of the lower leg become more taught placing excess pressure on the point of insertion of the tendon in the bone. This condition should be managed conservatively with biomechanical correction and pain reducing strategies.
